LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Clark County, Kentucky, school bus hit and killed a high school student Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Ironworks Road in Winchester, Kentucky.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said a 15-year-old, identified as McKenna Letcher, was hit and killed while trying to cross the road, LEX18 News reported

Letcher was a student at George Rogers Clark High School, Clark County Public Schools Superintendent Dustin Howard said in a statement.

"The Clark County Public Schools family is heartbroken today," Howard wrote.

The district said it will have grief counselors and mental health support staff available to all students.

"Please keep the student's family, along with the entirety of our school system and community, in your thoughts and prayers as we work through this very difficult time," Howard's statement concluded.

In a post on X, Gov. Andy Beshear shared his condolences with the student's friends and family.

"My heart aches for the family and friends of this precious child lost in this tragedy," Beshear wrote. "Please join Britainy and me in lifting up the Clark County community in prayers of peace and comfort."

No other details have been released about the crash at this time.
