LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A person is dead after a fire in the Parkland neighborhood on Thursday morning.

Louisville Division of Fire Captain Tamara Stewart said in a news release that LFD received a report at 4:19 a.m. of a residential structure fire with a possible rescue in the 700 block of South 33rd Street.

Fire companies were on the scene within three minutes and found heavy flames coming from the front porch and the sides of the one-and-a-half story house. Houses on both sides sustained damage. 

One person was removed from the fire and and died at the hospital. 

Neighbors told WDRB that the victim was a 94-year-old woman they affectionately called "Miss Aiden." She lived in the home with her son and grandson. 

"She was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a great-great grandmother," one person said. 

The neighbor said she used a walker to get around and celebrated her birthday last week. 

It took 28 firefighters approximately 25 minutes to gain control of the fire with multiple units. Firefighters were still on the scene into the early afternoon.

A large pile of charred books, mattresses, clothes, chairs, and debris sit the the front yard. Anyone gathering on the sidewalk can see clear through the home and into the backyard.

Neighbors told WDRB they fear the fire was set on purpose. Arson investigators are working to determine the cause.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 700 block of S. 33rd Street.
