LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An anonymous donor offered a $500,000 challenge grant to help raise $1 million for the $58 million Community Care Campus in Louisville.

Construction started in September 2024 on the project, designed to expand services for the city’s unhoused population. Led by Volunteers of America Mid-States, the campus will bring multiple services under one roof, including affordable housing, traditional housing, a family shelter, a medical respite unit and a community center. The organization is also moving its headquarters to the site.

According to our partners Louisville Business First, an anonymous donor has offered the $500,000 challenge grant to help VOA raise $1 million for the project, matching donations through March 31.

Local homeless advocates said the campus comes at a critical time. Louisville has about 1,700 unhoused residents, including nearly 600 people living on the streets.

"Unsheltered homelessness is bad for people’s health, and it costs our community a great deal," said Natalie Harris, executive director of the Coalition for the Homeless.

The campus is expected to open in 2027.
