LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 25-year-old man was killed in a five-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 64 in eastern Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Tuesday that Colton Tanner died of blunt force trauma around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said, based on information from witnesses, police believe traffic in the westbound lanes had slowed due to heavy congestion and construction. A semitruck approaching the slowed traffic in the center lane hit a pickup truck, causing a chain reaction with five vehicles involved and damaged, Ellis said.

Tanner, the only occupant of the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two adults from one of the other vehicles were taken to UofL Hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. The driver of the semi was not hurt and no other injuries were reported, Ellis said.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.

One lane of I-64 West reopened just before 6 p.m., and all lanes reopened by 8:15 p.m.
