LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An 84-year-old man died shortly after a fire broke out in a Shively home Monday morning.
In a news release from the Louisville Division of Fire on Monday, Capt. Donovan Sims said firefighters from both Louisville and the Shively Fire departments responded about 11:20 a.m. to Candor Avenue, which is just off Garrs Lane.Â
When firefighters arrived, they didn't see any smoke or fire, but once they forced the door open they found a fire in the kitchen. They found one person inside. That person, identified Tuesday by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as Norman Thomas Sr., was taken to the hospital with extensive injuries from the fire.Â
He died just after noon at the hospital of smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
No one else was in the home, and no other injuries were reported.Â
It took 25 firefighters about 10 minutes to get the fire under control. The Louisville Fire Department Arson team is investigating the cause. Â
