LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a wish several years in the making, but Gabe Kinderman finally got it.Â
The 17-year-old has a cancerous brain tumor. You may remember him from a story we did in 2012, when Kinderman spent two years restoring his dream car -- a 1982 El Camino -- only to have it stolen and wrecked, before he even had the chance to drive it.
After Kinderman found out he had cancer. he told the Make-A-Wish foundation his one true wish was to drive his dream car again. Friday night, the foundation surprised him with a newly restored El Camino.
"I Was completely surprised," Kinderman said. "I didn't expect this to be done for a long time. And I'm just grateful I'm just thankful to God that I'm here to see it, and that it's got done in such quick a time."
Kinderman was the honorary Wish Kid at Friday night's Big Wish Gala -- which is put on by Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
The event is an annual fundraising effort to help make more wishes come true for some of the 150 kids on their waiting list.
