LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The defense team for the man accused of killing two teenagers in Delphi, Indiana, has quit, Fox59 reported Thursday.

Richard Allen's attorneys announced their withdrawal from the case Thursday. Allen is charged with murder in the February 2017 deaths of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German.

He's pleaded not guilty.

The attorneys did not give a reason for quitting, and their absence forced the cancellation of a hearing Thursday. Allen was transported back to Westville Correctional Facility without counsel.

Fox59 has reported some evidence leaks from the defense team, though those claims weren't addressed Thursday.

Allen's trial was set to start Jan. 8, but that will now have to be rescheduled to allow time for new counsel to prepare. The evidence hearing for Oct. 31 is expected to continue as planned.
