LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A bicyclist died in the hospital after being hit by a car Thursday in Pleasure Ridge Park.
Officers responded to a report that a pedestrian had been hit on Dixie Highway at Blanton Lane just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said in a statement.
Police believe a vehicle was headed north on Dixie Highway and had the green light when entering the intersection with Blanton Lane. That's when, "for some unknown reason," a man on a bicycle tried to cross near the crosswalk and was hit by the vehicle, Ellis said.
The driver stopped immediately and called for assistance. The man was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition and later died late Thursday evening.
No other vehicles were involved and charges are not expected to be filed.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the ongoing investigation.Â
