LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With grocery prices still up sharply and SNAP benefits in jeopardy for millions of Americans, many families are looking for new ways to stretch their food budget.
For shoppers, there are a few simple apps could help shoppers cut their grocery bills in half — and keep good food from going to waste.
Officials recommend checking out grocery salvage stores or discount apps that connect you to food stores might otherwise throw out.
One of the most popular options is Flashfood, an app that partners with grocery stores in about half the country. It shows nearby markdowns on food that’s nearing its “best by” date — but still perfectly good to eat.
Another app, Too Good To Go, is available at some Whole Foods stores and local bakeries. It lets customers grab surprise bags of food for up to 50% off before it expires.
Even if your SNAP benefits aren’t affected, both apps are a great way to save on groceries and fight food waste.
