LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Holiday yard decorations are getting a major upgrade — and a hefty price tag — as Lowe’s rolls out its new “Rudolph and Friends” collection.
The lineup includes animatronic versions of beloved characters from the classic holiday special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, with prices ranging from $228 for Rudolph to $498 for the Abominable Snowman. Yukon Cornelius is listed at $398, and Herbie the Elf costs $258. Altogether, the full set totals more than $1,300.
Some shoppers are impressed by the lifelike figures, but others say the cost is too steep.
“It’s too much because we’re already on a tight budget,” said Arlett Brown, a Lowe’s customer. Another shopper added, “Probably a little over the top. I’m a little more traditional. Go with the blinking lights and the garland.”
The animatronics reflect a growing trend toward museum-quality holiday displays once reserved for public spaces. But for those looking to decorate without breaking the bank, Lowe’s still offers more affordable options — including a snowman for $139 and another for just $64.
“I cannot afford the $300 Christmas items,” one shopper said. “They are nice to look at but they won’t be in my home!”
Lowe’s also continues to sell budget-friendly decor, such as 100-count light sets for as little as $4 and other items under $10.
As consumer choices expand, the holiday season remains as affordable — or extravagant — as shoppers choose to make it.
