LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new fast-casual Indian restaurant just opened in St. Matthews.

Zila Indian Kitchen opened April 10 in the Vogue Center, next to Coals Artisan Pizza, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

The space on Lexington Road was previously home to the WNB Factory and Burgerim. Zila's owner said the concept is similar to Shake Shack's quick service model.

"The whole point of this model is that there really isn't fast-casual Indian cuisine available right now," Rahul Anand told LBF. "I just moved back from the Northeast — the New Jersey and New York area — and I saw the variety of cuisines and options they have there. Nobody has tapped into that potential in the Louisville market."

The restaurant's menu features Indian staples like biryanis, curry and samosas. Its signature offering is the "Naanos," taco-style sandwiches made with naan bread. Sandwiches can be customized with a variety of proteins, sauces and toppings.

"We have a hyper-focused menu — nothing overwhelming," Anand told LBF. "Some people don't really know what Indian options are. They'll look at a menu and feel lost. I wanted to give them things they already recognize, then introduce new flavors. That way, customers feel more welcomed into Indian cuisine instead of unsure where to start."

Zila's is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
