LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some of Louisville's most popular attractions want Kentuckiana residents to celebrate everything downtown has to offer by cutting prices in half.
Louisville Downtown Partnership is leading Hometown Tourism Celebration, a program that encourages people to visit established or new attractions in the city. It kicks off Feb. 1 and goes through Feb. 11.
People with a valid Kentucky or Indiana ID, local college ID or military ID will receive half-off regular admission to various downtown venues.
"We’re thrilled to re-introduce and grow a campaign that enjoyed success in the past," Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership, said in a news release. "The week-long celebration not only encourages locals to be tourists in their own hometown, but it also supports and promotes the strength and density of Downtown’s attractions and hotels."
Attractions and venues participating in the program include: Angel's Envy Distillery, Buzzard’s Roost Whiskey Row Experience, Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, Frazier History Museum, Louisville Ballet, Muhammad Ali Center, SAR Genealogical Research Library, Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, KMAC Museum, Derby City Gaming Downtown, Kentucky Performing Arts Center, Angle’s Selfie Museum, WOW Women-Owned Wallet and the Waterfront Botanical Gardens.
"We should know what tourists are doing and loving so much about our own city and take advantage of it," Fleischaker said.
The Misfit Lou is a new spot in downtown Louisville people can visit. The space previously occupied by Another Place Sandwich Shop and Jimmy Can't Dance held a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday.
"We felt that with the tourism on the uptick there's not enough places, especially locally-owned, that could actually really give a tourist a sense of what Louisville is," said Martin Svab, The Misfit Lou owner. "You have to be aware of it, but I feel like especially big, small businesses in the downtown area working together. I think that is important."
Hotels are also participating with various discounts during the promotion. Hotels like AC Marriott, Hampton Inn Downtown, Hotel Genevieve, Omni Louisville and the Myriad are offering discounted rates.
"Louisville’s Hometown Tourism Celebration gives us all an opportunity to visit a myriad of iconic and new attractions to rediscover the city that everyone is talking about," Cleo Battle, president and CEO of Louisville Tourism, said in a news release.
Admission tickets can be purchased online by individual location or multiple days and locations together. To learn more, visit Hometown Tourism Celebration's website.
