LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There are several hotels popping up in downtown Louisville, but with Whiskey Row and the KFC Yum! Center nearby, Aloft officials say their's will be the most popular hotel in town.
Developer Steve Poe calls the new Aloft hotel vibrant, free-flowing and modern, exactly what they had in mind.
"The finished product is better than we had hoped," Poe said. "I kind of describe the hotel as - it's not your father's Buick."
Anyone's welcome to make a reservation, but Aloft hopes to appeal to a younger crowd.
"It’s targeted to the millennials. It's designed to be fun and hip and cool."
The $24 million hotel is eight stories high with 175 rooms 49" TVs and plug-n-play stations for tablets.
One of the corner rooms on the eighth floor overlooks the Ohio River, which could be the perfect spot to watch Thunder over Louisville.
But this hotel has some stiff competition.
It seems like every time you turn around, a new hotel is popping up out of nowhere, and the expansion of the convention center has a lot to do with that.
"We are really growing, and we’ve lost conventions in the past because we outgrew downtown," said Karen Williams, President and CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Louisville currently has about 3,000 downtown hotel rooms.
All of our competitors, Nashville, Indy ... they have over 5,000 rooms,” Williams explained. “This will help us become competitive and beat our competitors.”
The pressure is on to offer the best experience for visitors and guests, and Louisville stands to make millions from all the competition.
Aloft opens Tuesday.
