LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman is taking legal action against a Louisville moving company accused of stealing from its clients.
The AG's office filed a lawsuit in Franklin Circuit Court on Tuesday after receiving complaints about Margaret's Moving and Storage, owned and operated by Margaret and Arthur "Stormy" Weathers, according to a news release.
Some of the complaints filed include: the company failed to return items to the consumer after storage, failed to disclose where the items were being stored, and damaged or stole items during moving and storage.
"Moving is always stressful, and the Kentuckians who entrusted their precious belongings to this company have been repeatedly let down," Coleman said in a news release. "When a company takes advantage of their customers and then refuses to work with our Office to make them whole, we'll hold them accountable in court."
Margaret's Moving and Storage has also been operating without required state certification, according to the release. The company was last authorized to provide local moving services in 2015.
The company, which was founded in 2004, according to its website, continues to advertise and provide moving services despite not being compliant with state law.
The Franklin Circuit Court has granted the attorney general's request for a temporary restraining order, prohibiting Margaret's Moving and Storage from moving any commercial or residential property within the commonwealth, demanding payment from customers, disposing of or relocating consumers' property, disposing of any documents or evidence, or conducting any new business in Kentucky.
The lawsuit is also seeking civil penalties for the violations.
