LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville's loss at Stanford last November is the gift that keeps on taking. It knocked the Cardinals out of the AP Top 25 and the College Football Playoff rankings in one swoop.
Falling out of the playoff poll cost U of L more than bragging rights — it also meant losing the $1.7 million ACC bonus awarded to teams ranked in the final CFP standings.
The hangover carried into 2025. In Monday's AP preseason poll, the Cardinals were again nowhere to be found — 29th in the balloting — marking the eighth straight season they've been left out.
Not absent was Indiana, fresh off its first College Football Playoff trip. Curt Cignetti's team checks in at No. 20 in the preseason vote of media members.
There's also a new preseason No. 1. Texas opens at the top for the first time since 2009, followed by Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia. The Bulldogs had been preseason No. 2 in each of the past two seasons.
