LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man accused of abducting a family, stabbing a woman, and robbing a bank while holding them in his car appeared before a judge Monday in what detectives call one of the most unusual cases they’ve seen.
Armond Langford, who is being held at Metro Corrections on $1 million bond, is charged with kidnapping, robbery, assault and other offenses. Police say the incident began Friday when Langford abducted a woman and her children, forced them into a car and drove to a bank on Shelbyville Road.
According to court records, Langford sat behind the woman in the car, held a large knife to her throat and demanded cash from tellers. During the robbery, police said, he stabbed her in the abdomen.
Langford fled the scene and was found hours later behind a nearby Best Buy with a knife and a large amount of cash, investigators said.
In court Monday, Langford initially refused to cooperate with a no-contact order, but the judge imposed it regardless, prohibiting him from having contact with the victims.
Louisville Metro Police Detective Ashley Schaefer said the case stood out from typical robberies.
“It’s normal to have a bank robbery, it’s normal to have a business robbery — it’s not normal to have all these other factors,” Schaefer said. “I’ve never experienced anything in my entire career to this magnitude.”
Police said the woman who was stabbed underwent surgery and is recovering at home. Over the weekend, officers visited her home to celebrate the birthday of one of the children involved in the ordeal.
Court records show Langford has prior convictions for robbing at least three other businesses since 2016, along with domestic violence and burglary charges.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 19.
