LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was arrested more than six hours after police said he robbed a bank in east Louisville and assaulted a woman Friday morning.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said officers were called around 9:30 a.m. and found a woman who'd been injured at the PNC Bank location on Shelbyville Road near Oxmoor Center. Mitchell said a man broke into the woman's home and drove her and two children to the bank.

"A man came through the drive-thru, had a weapon inside the vehicle believed to be a knife, and a woman was inside as well," Mitchell said. "He demanded the business cash and received an undetermined amount."

The man then ran from the scene, Mitchell said. Police investigators had crime scene tape around a black SUV in the drive-thru of the bank.

The woman was assaulted during the robbery and has injuries, which Mitchell said weren't life-threatening. She was taken to a hospital. The children weren't physically injured, but Mitchell said "it was very traumatic, what has taken place."

Mitchell wouldn't identify the area where the home invasion took place.

Just after 4:30 p.m., St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said they caught someone who "appears to be the suspect" near the Best Buy store, which is about 1 mile from the bank.

'Do not approach'

LMPD released images on social media of the suspect late Friday morning. The surveillance images show a man with a white jacket pulled over his head. He was wearing white shorts and athletic shoes as he ran from the scene.

"We are looking for this male who was last seen on foot in the area," the post said. "If you see him call 911. DO NOT APPROACH."

There was a heavy police presence in nearby neighborhoods. Early Friday afternoon, police were seen patrolling in the Arterburn Crossing neighborhood near North Park Place and Whippoorwill Drive. An officer in an unmarked car was patrolling the area and conducting interviews with resident.

Mitchell said the LMPD Air Unit was also helping in the search for the suspect as well as patrol officers on the ground.

Multiple agencies assisted LMPD in the investigation, including St. Matthews Police, Lyndon Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

In an update Friday about 10 p.m., LMPD said 32-year-old Armond Langford was taken into custody about 4:20 p.m. Friday, charged with five counts of robbery, one count of kidnapping an adult, two counts of kidnapping a minor and one count of assault.

LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said while being questioned by detectives, Langford confessed to the crimes on Friday, and also shared details in other crimes dating back to 2018.
