LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drivers can expect lane closures on Interstate 65 in downtown Louisville this weekend.

In a news release, the Kentucky Transportation Department said the northbound and southbound lanes of I-65 in "hospital curve" will have lane closures starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 through Monday, Aug. 11 at 5 a.m.

The left and center lanes will be closed to complete work on joint repairs between East Broadway and the Kennedy Bridge. KYTC said after the earlier closures of the interstate, the repair project is nearly finished.

The project includes the full replacement of the bridge joints in the heavily traveled interstate corridor. A high-friction surface treatment (HFST) has also  been applied from the end of the Kennedy Bridge to the bridge over Witherspoon Street. HFST increases pavement friction, particularly when wet weather makes roadways slick.
