LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A busy road through Louisville's bustling medical district is getting a makeover.

The area near the city's downtown hospital is now known as LouMed. Chestnut Street cuts right through it, and nearly $7 million will help transform it into a safer, more pedestrian-friendly roadway.

The sidewalks will be expanded, more trees and landscaping will be added, and new curb extensions will create seating areas.

"This project is about making sure the environment and experience in LouMed matches the world class healthcare that's taking place inside the buildings," LouMed President & CEO Nadareca Thibeaux said Monday.
