LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LouVelo is rolling its bikes out of Louisville.

The company announced on social media that it would be closing Oct. 25, saying it's grateful to every rider who joined the journey.

"A heartfelt thanks to our riders and supporters who made LouVelo a part of our city's fabric," the company said.

Riders are asked to return LouVelo bikes to their designated drop-off locations by Oct. 25.

In a statement, Louisville Press Secretary Kevin Trager said, in part, "As technology has rapidly evolved, we are looking at more efficient options for a new bike-sharing program, including a dock-less model that is being used in other cities."

Trager said more details about the next version of bike-sharing will be announced soon.

LouVelo has operated in the Kentuckiana area for about six years, with 32 stations and 321 bikes across downtown Louisville, NuLu, Old Louisville, Waterfront Park and downtown Jeffersonville, Indiana.
