LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Plans for a major new pediatric campus in eastern Jefferson County continue to take shape, and Norton Children’s is asking the public to weigh in.

The health system will host a virtual community listening session on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. Eastern to gather feedback on its proposed campus in Jeffersontown. The online event, called “Follow the Balloon,” is designed to give families, teachers and other community members an opportunity to hear updates about the project and share input on what they would like to see included.

The campus, planned on 150 acres, would include a second dedicated children’s hospital in Kentucky. Norton leaders say the facility is intended to expand access to specialized pediatric care for families across the state and surrounding region.

During the session, organizers plan to discuss the project’s progress and collect feedback on a range of topics, including expanded pediatric services, support for families and ways to improve children’s overall health — including behavioral and mental health care.

Norton Healthcare President and CEO Russell F. Cox said community input will play a key role in shaping the campus as plans move forward.

“We’re building more than a hospital. We’re building a future just for kids,” Cox said in a statement. “This campus will be built for every child and family, every voice matters in making this vision a reality.”

Health system leaders said the project aims to meet growing demand for children’s services, particularly in the area of mental health, by combining medical and behavioral health care in one location.

Registration is required to attend the virtual session, and those interested can sign up through Norton Children’s website.
