LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Omni Hotels & Resorts plans to build a $12 million pickleball-focused entertainment venue in the shadow of its downtown Louisville hotel.
According to our partners at Louisville Business First, the 14,000-square-foot facility would sit on a vacant lot on Muhammad Ali Boulevard between 2nd and 3rd streets, just south of the hotel. The site is currently just a grass field, though the 19th-century Odd Fellows building still sits there as well.
Plans filed with the city call for:
- Four indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts
- An indoor restaurant, bar and entertainment space
- Outdoor yard-game areas
- Flexible event and gathering spaces
"The venue will be open to the public and also serve as a valued amenity and additional event space supporting the Omni Louisville Hotel and convention activities," Omni said in the filing.
Omni would have to demolish the Odd Fellows building, which was deemed possible after a 2023 Kentucky Court of Appeals ruling, ending a years-long fight over historical landmark designation. That demolition would be step one for Omni, followed by geotechnical and environmental studies, architectural design and then groundbreaking, which could be more than five years from now.
"... we have always envisioned something on this site that would activate the area for both hotel guests and the local community,” Nicole Kubitza, director of sales and marketing for Omni Louisville, said in an email to Business First.
