LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A longtime vacant plaza in Clarksville is getting new life.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission approved the sale of Clarksville Plaza, the property along Lewis and Clark Parkway, to Rural King for $2.8 million.
“The Clarksville Plaza has been a bit of an eyesore for several years now with empty storefronts and a large, empty parking lot,” Ken Conklin, Clarksville's communications director, said Thursday in a news release. “We think local residents will be very happy with what Rural King has planned for bringing the plaza back to life.”
The town said Rural King, a farm supply chain, plans to redevelop the whole property, moving from its current location in Jeffersonville. Initial plans include creating an outdoor farm, a garden area a pedestrian and bike route connecting to Lewis and Clark Parkway and more according to the town's 3C Master Plan.
The Town of Clarksville purchased the property in June 2020 after Hobby Lobby vacated, moving the store to Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville. Harbor Freight was the only store left in the center, but the town worked out a deal with the company, helping them relocate to 951 Lewis and Clark Parkway.
Construction is expected to begin this fall with the store expected to open in fall 2025.
