LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Transit Authority of River City is increasing fare prices starting March 2.
The TARC Board of Directors approved updates to the fare schedule Tuesday after public engagement and a federally required Title VI review process.
This is the first fare change since 2012.
"The Board's decision follows a thorough public review and careful consideration of the public's input," TARC Board Chairperson Abbie Gilbert said in a news release. "Our role is to make sure TARC remains financially stable and able to serve the region for years to come. This step reflects a balance between keeping public transit affordable and making sure the system remains sustainable and reliable for the community."
A seven-day pass will go from $15 to $25, and a 30-day pass will go from $50 to $75. The adult fare increases from $1.75 to $2.25.
Officials said the updated fares come ahead of the Aug. 2 launch of the New TARC Network.
"We recognize that any fare change impacts our riders, and we approached this decision with that understanding front and center," TARC Executive Director Ozzy Gibson said in a news release. "This update helps us protect the reliability of our service and continue preparing for the launch of the New TARC Network in August. Our focus remains on delivering a system that is dependable, easy to navigate and better connected to the jobs and opportunities our community relies on every day."
