LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A west Louisville bar has shut down temporarily after a shooting suspended its liquor license.
But an emergency suspension order like that is rare.
"But when they're just not safe, they're just not safe," councilwoman Tammy Hawkins said.
Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said in a news release officers received a call around 5:45 a.m. Saturday reporting two women showed up at Norton West Hospital by private means with gunshot wounds.
After some investigation, police confirmed the shooting happened around 2 a.m. at the Double Deuce Sports Bar and Grill at 2529 W. Broadway.

"I do support ABC's decision to suspend their license," Hawkins said. "Hopefully it will grab the owners' attention that when people get near with guns, that's not good business."
Co-owner Stephon Harbin told WDRB that somebody managed to get past security with a weapon. It then was dropped on the floor and went off. He said there wasn't a shooter running around firing shots in the club.
It's illegal to have a loaded firearm in a Kentucky bar, and a Louisville ordinance outlines the consequences.
"It is a huge burden too, if you ask me to decide to suspend somebody's license to conduct business," said Brad Silveria, director of the Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Silveria can't comment about the Double Deuce investigation but suspending a license is serious business.
"The mayor hired me to keep people safe and if you ask me, there is no greater responsibility if you have a license to serve alcoholic beverages than to keep your patrons safe," Silveria said.
One of the co-owners told WDRB the bar is expected to have scanners and metal detectors coming in soon.
Hawkins said she has been working with the bar management and owners for some time on improving safety around the establishment.
"LMPD, time after time again, have said that that corner is not safe," Hawkins said.
The city has encouraged the owners and management of the club to install lights and cameras.
One of the victims told WDRB she's in pain and has a lot of burning where she was shot.
The owners of the bar will have a hearing within 10 days of the closing. They could face a fine, restrictions or they could lose their licenses.
The suspension by Louisville Metro ABC means the Double Deuce Sports Bar and Grill is prohibited from selling or serving alcohol until an investigation is complete.
The incident is currently under investigation by LMPD. Harbin said the bar provided security footage to police as part of that investigation.
