LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Officials intercepted a package last week at the Port of Louisville containing millions of dollars in counterfeit luxury watches and shoes.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted the package coming from the Republic of Korea Aug. 18 as it was headed to Georgia.
Inside the package, officers found 152 Rolex and Louis Vuitton watches and 32 pairs of Gucci shoes that were deemed inauthentic. Had they been legitimate, the combined suggested retail price would have been more more that $9 million.
"The distribution of counterfeit goods defrauds U.S. consumers and has a significant adverse impact on businesses by robbing our country of jobs and tax revenues,” Louisville Port Director, Philip Onken said in a news release. "CBP is the first line of defense, and our officers intercepted this threat before these fake items were introduced into the commerce and reached consumers, which provides economic security for our nation."
