LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)-- Â One Louisville company is turning the tables on the traditional bourbon ball by putting chocolate in whiskey. Ballotin Chocolate Whiskey launched a few months ago and they're hitting their stride just in time for Valentine's Day.
Roses are red, violets are blue
Chocolate and flowers are so old news.
New on the market, twist on tradition.
Ballotin Chocolate Flavored Whiskey is the newest addition.
"It's a great compliment that people already enjoy on Valentine's Day," said Ballotin owner Paul Tuell.
Chocolate or bourbon ball, caramel turtle or mint
The original flavors of bourbon act as the blueprint.
"We've expanded on that flavor pallet that whiskey and bourbon brings to the table already," said Tuell.
The brain child of Paul Tuell, he's the man who made it.
Joining vodka and gin in the bartender's tool kit.
"If you're a whiskey lover and like chocolate a little here's something for you and if you like chocolate and you like a little whiskey  here's something for you," said Tuell.
Shaken or stirred, on the rocks or with mixers
Ballotin works in any kind of elixir.
"It goes great with champagne if you'd like to go that way with it. It goes great with chocolate or an after dinner drink if you like that," said Colleen Thomas, who works for "Flavorman" the company that produces Ballotin.
Not a big drinker? Bourbon too much of a bite?
Ballotin promises an intro that's light.
"Bourbon or straight bourbons are just a lot for them and a lot for their pallet. We think Ballotin gives them a real comfortable way into the category to be drinking real whiskey," said Tuell.
As far as the name, if you're wondering where they got it
From the Belgians of course, the experts in chocolate.
"Ballotin is the chocolate box that the Belgians created 100 years ago to present and sell their fine chocolates. So if every anyone out there has give their sweetheart a box of chocolates, they've given them a ballotin," said Tuell.
Not a distiller, they don't make it on their own.
Flavorman does the mixing to give it its tone.
"People like Paul come to us with these really great ideas and we figure out  how to take their idea make it a reality," said Thomas.
So if you're looking for a treat to give to your Valentine
Ballotin Chocolate Flavored Whiskey will go down just fine.
"I hope people get chocolate and flowers and I hope they get Ballotin as well," said Tuell.
