LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A $2.5 million renovation to Riverside's visitor center is officially underway.
Louisville leaders broke ground Thursday on the first phase of the project at the Farnsley-Moremen Landing.
The project will expand and upgrade the property's visitor center in southwest Louisville.
City leaders said the project will double the size of the current center's multipurpose room to be able to hold around 250 people.
There will also be a large outdoor event court off the new addition, and a new food preparation space will be added.
Riverside board members raised nearly $1 million for the expansion, and the city allocated $1.5 million from its general fund.
Riverside will continue to raise money for the final construction phase, which is said to include an expanded museum exhibit space, new classrooms and more.
