LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville is poised to be the dishwasher capital of the country, bringing a number of state and city leaders to visit GE Appliances.
The park is the home of GE dishwashers.
Wednesday, employees celebrated the completion of two new manufacturing lines inside the plant, which were made possible by a $450 million investment.
The expansion means the plant is the largest of its kind in the U.S. The company announced the investment back in 2021.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg visited the plant to see the upgrades and meet with plant leaders and workers.
The money went to improve multiple aspects of the plant, including the technology used to manufacture the dishwashers and the working environment for the employees.
Beshear said this will create thousands of jobs and strengthen the state as a manufacturing stronghold.
"We always talk about an announcement being exciting — a groundbreaking being about progress — but today, being here is the reality," Beshear said. "It means the jobs that were discussed showed up. It means more of our families have the dignity of work and the security for their kids."
Company leaders said they’re excited about where the company is going and what that means for Louisville.
"I think what you see in Kentucky is special because it is a smaller state and a small community and we really can help each other," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances.
Work has already begun on the new dishwashers, which means you can already purchase one in stores.
