LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Trager Family Jewish Community Center and the Festival of Trees are teaming up with local chefs and celebrities to find the best Latke in Louisville.
The Preliminary Bake-off happened Sunday at the JCC on Dutchmans Lane. Contestants prepared their best Latkes which is a type of Jewish potato pancake or fritter.
They can also be made using carrots, onions, zucchini, or even cheese.
The dish is traditionally prepared to celebrate Hanukkah. The competition's judges might be tough to please.
"A true Latke you dip it in sour cream or applesauce, do you agree with that? Are you an applesauce or are you a sour cream? Eh, I am purist. I am a applesaucer but I am an equal opportunity pancaker," Bruce Rosenblatt and Honi Marleen Goldman, who are judges, said.
Final bake-off will be Sunday, Nov. 12 during the Festival of Trees and Light’s Jewish Heritage Day at Louisville Slugger Field.
