LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A teenager is in critical condition after a shooting in the Auburndale neighborhood just after midnight.

According to LMPD spokesman Matthew Sanders, officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Royal Gardens Court. When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old boy who had been shot in the back.

The teenager was unconscious at the scene and was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

Sanders said they have a person of interest detained, but it's too early to announce charges at this time.

LMPD is waiting to hear from the medical staff on the severity of his injuries which will determine what department will handle the investigation.
