2 arrested after 4-year-old in 'excessively soiled' diaper darts in front of JCPS bus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 4-year-old boy darted into traffic and was nearly hit by a Jefferson County Schools bus Tuesday morning -- and now two people are facing felony charges.

According to arrest reports, the child darted into the street in front of JCPS Bus No. 1868 at about 6:30 a.m. on Lincoln Avenue, near 7th Street Road.

Two JCPS employees called police and waited with the boy until officers arrived. While they waited, they had to cut the boy's pants and change "an excessively soiled diaper."

Police say they found the boy's parents -- 38-year-old James Coleman and 26-year-old Christina Coleman -- at their nearby home and confronted them about the child's lack of supervision, but not for the first time. According to the arrest report, police had been called to their house twice during the previous day for similar incidents.

The parents said they'd had no idea the child had left their home and had been wandering the street for nearly an hour.

Both James and Christina Coleman were arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor. They are currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
