LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two Boone County deputies were shot multiple times Thursday night while serving a warrant, and the suspect was later found dead inside the residence.

It happened in Walton, Kentucky, which is about 30 minutes from Cincinnati.

According to a news release from the Boone County Sherriff's Office posted on Facebook, deputies were serving a felony warrant at 13167 Service Road around 9:30 p.m. After confirming the suspect was inside, they "breached the front door" just after 10 p.m. and were met with heavy gunfire.

Both deputies were shot multiple times. They were taken to UC Medical Center, where they were listed in "stable" condition.

SWAT officials, along with other law enforcement agencies, continued to try to establish a line of communication with the suspect, according to the release. After several attempts and after ensuring nearby units were evacuated, gas cannisters were deployed.

When the suspect didn't react to the gas, a drone was sent in and found the suspect "unresponsive" in an upstairs bedroom, dead from "an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound," according to the release.

The suspect's identity wasn't immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to call the Boone County Sheriff's Office at 859-334-2175 send an email to bcs@boonecountyky.org
