LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro police are thanking quick police work, community members stepping up and drone technology for landing a suspect behind bars.

The department shared drone video on Facebook, and said a community member saw something suspicious the morning of March 2 and called it in to police.

Officers responded to reports of a masked man on a bicycle carrying bolt cutters near a storage facility on Dixie Highway. Within minutes, LMPD launched a drone. Even though the suspect had already fled, he was caught about a mile away.

Christopher Hall, 37, was charged with fleeing or evading police, giving an officer false identifying information, and four counts of failure to appear. According to an arrest report, Hall was seen attempting to break into a storage facility. The drone captured him in the parking lot of a nearby Kroger, where police closed in on him.

Hall allegedly told police he didn't break into the storage facility. As officers were running his information to confirm it was correct, Hall reportedly got on his bike and took off. When officers took him into custody, he told them he gave false information because he had warrants out for his arrest.

During his March 3 arraignment, Hall pleaded not guilty and his bond was set at $1,000. He remains behind bars at Metro Corrections in downtown Louisville, and is scheduled to be back in court March 11 for a hearing.

The department thanked the community member who called in the tip, saying when the community speaks up and officers have the right tools, they can stop crime faster and keep neighborhoods safer.
