SELLERSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) -- The suits, guns and jewelry the convicted former Clark County Sheriff bought on the taxpayers dime will soon hit the auction block. The money it profits, will go toward Jamey Noel's restitution.
Freije and Freije Auctions retrieved the items from the Indiana State Police post in Sellersburg on Thursday.
The auctioneers will sell Noel's 83 guns, dozens of suits and clothing items, and two Rolex watches.
Profits from the items that sell will go towards Noel's $3.1 million restitution. The former sheriff was ordered to pay the restitution after he pleaded guilty to 27 felonies related to fraud and theft in October.
Restitution will be split between the following agencies:
- $2,870,924 to Utica Township Volunteers Firefighters Association (dba New Chapel EMS)
- $173,155.07 to the Indiana Department of Revenue
- $61,190.77 to the Clark County Sheriff's Department
- $35,245.60 to Indiana State Police
"We were extremely honored and humbled that they (the court) would trust us with with remarketing this stuff and getting the most money for the for the taxpayer and the people of Clark County," said TJ Freije, a third-generation auctioneer and president of Freije and Freije Auctions. "We want to do what's what's right, by the, by the Indiana taxpayer, and the people of Clark County who entrusted, you know, the people who, who did not serve and protect them."
Freije described some of the firearms as modern and in great condition.
The auction will take place at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day at 2340 W US HWY 40, Clayton, Ind. 46118. There will also be an option to pre-bid and bid online.
"There will be several 100 people to 1,000 in attendance in-person. We believe we are going to get these assets marketed correctly and it's going to bring top dollar," Freije said.
In addition to Noel's items, other items will be up for auction.
As for Noel's extensive classic car collection, those will not be up for sale. The cars need to be refurbished, and they are still evidence in the cases against Noel's daughter Kasey and estranged wife Misty.
