LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Elizabethtown Police have arrested a man charged with attempted murder.

Robert Williams, 40, was arrested Sunday in the 500 block of College Street Road in Elizabethtown, according to the official police report.

Police say Williams was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend. Officials say Williams' girlfriend said that he "strangled her unconscious once." Authorities say the victim also stated Williams strangled her at least one other time.

Police say the victim told authorities that Williams "told her multiple times that he was going to kill her." Officials say Williams' girlfriend also said he pointed a gun at her head.

Officials say a witness saw Williams pull the victim into a car by her hair.

Police say the victim jumped out of the vehicle while it was traveling at about 45 miles per hour. According to police, the victim said that once she had jumped out of the vehicle, Williams pulled her back into the car.

Investigators say a 9 mm handgun was found during a search of Williams' residence. Authorities also say a small amount of suspected cocaine and marijuana were found.

Williams is also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
