LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed in a double shooting Sunday night outside a west Louisville bar.

The shooting happened on South 26th Street in the Russell neighborhood in the parking lot of Club Cedar, according to police. Louisville Metro Police said when officers arrived, they found two men who'd been shot. One of them died at the scene.

Eddie Woods, CEO of No More Red Dots, an organization that responds to shootings and works on programs trying to prevent violence, said it didn't take long to hear about the shooting.

"It's actually just more of the same," he said Monday. "Until we get a unified effort to address it, we're going to keep having these kinds of situations."

According to LMPD data, 135 people have been killed in Metro Louisville in 2024. At this point in 2022 and 2023, that number was 135 and 134, respectively.

"Here's the deal: We're going to have triple digit homicides until we learn how to work together," Woods said.

Louisville Metro Alcohol Beverage Control said Monday it's also investigating the shooting. Last month, the agency denied the renewal of a liquor license for a Baxter Avenue bar, citing "multiple shooting incidents in the vicinity ..."

"Public safety remains our primary concern, and we are working closely with LMPD and Kentucky State ABC to gather all relevant details," Louisville Metro ABC spokesperson Brandon Bowden said in a written statement Monday.

Bowden said ABC can order an emergency suspension of a license if "they believe the health, welfare, safety, and security of the public may be jeopardized by continued operation of the license." Every incident is investigated independently, he said.

And LMPD said part of its investigation is figuring out how or if these two shooting victims knew each other. At this point, police said there are no suspects.

"This is not a police problem," Woods said. "Police shouldn't have to address this whole thing themselves. This is a community issue."

He's pushing for more preventative work to stop shootings before they happen.

"It's seriously a community issue," he said. "It's not going to be fixed through law enforcement or the courts."

No one from Club Cedar agreed to an interview Monday.
