LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run Friday night in Nelson County.

According to Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle near the 13-mile marker on the Bluegrass Highway around 11 p.m.

Police said 20-year-old Nelson Pacheco of Cicero, Illinois, was changing a tire on a vehicle in the westbound emergency lane and 20-year-old Amari Mays-Clark of Frankfort, Kentucky, was standing near the rear driver's side bumper.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the fog line and hit them both without stopping.

Police said Mays-Clark died on the scene and Pacheco was taken to Baptist Health Hardin with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, 48-year-old Jason Hamilton of Rineyville, Kentucky, turned himself into KSP hours later.

Hamilton has been initially charged with vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance and assault.

He was taken to the Nelson County Detention Center.
