LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police said people were running out of an Elizabethtown hospital shortly before an armed man was shot by police.
George Lee Jr. fired multiple shots with a handgun inside Baptist Health Hardin around 5 a.m. on Oct. 19, according to police. KSP said the 39-year-old made threats to hospital staff and patients.
When police arrived on scene, people were running out of the hospital. According to KSP, police encountered Lee in the hospital hallway. That's when Elizabethtown Police officer Lt. Alex Ruiz fired one time at Lee, hitting him.
Lee was then airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. He is in critical condition, but stable.
Ruiz is a 10-year veteran of the Elizabethtown Police Department. He was placed on administrative leave.Â
Court records show Lee has a long criminal history. In 2018, he was sentenced to eight years in jail in Hardin County on charges related on a slew of charges, including assaulting an officer. He was released in less than four years.
