LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville tow truck driver is home recovering from a skull fracture and broken nose after being run over while trying to stop a car break-in at work.
The incident took place in a parking lot across the street from Suburban Towing, where employees often park on Industrial Boulevard.
The encounter was captured on security camera outside Suburban Towing's office building.
"He would do anything and ultimately that's what this was, he was helping a fellow brother out," said Kyle Goff, Suburban Towing's safety manager, about Chris Skaggs, the employee hit. "Ultimately, he's alive, and that's the main thing.
Goff said Skaggs, a tow truck operator, had pulled into the company lot shortly after 1 a.m. Monday when he noticed something was off.
"He noticed a vehicle across the street with its headlights on and someone outside rummaging through," Goff said.Â
Skaggs and another employee parked in the lot across the street, so he knew the man rummaging through the car was not his co-worker.
Skaggs communicated with another tow truck driver who was close by about what was happening. He then approached the person to direct him to stop.
"At that point the driver of the truck proceeded to get in his truck and flee the scene," said Goff.
In the video you see a figure running away from the vehicle.
"Chris stated the driver actually swerved to hit him on purpose," Goff said.
The view of the video then becomes slightly obstructed by a tree, but you see the vehicle slightly lift up. That is when the tow dolly attached to the truck ran over Skaggs. Â
"This was intentionally done," Goff said about the incident.
The video then shows a witness run toward Skaggs. Goff said this person tried to help Skaggs. Another tow truck operator is then seen pulling up seconds later.
Louisville Metro Police said it is investigating the incident.
Suburban Towing said a man and woman were in the truck. It is believed to be a two-toned black or dark blue colored Ford F-150 with a light colored-base and short bed.
As Skaggs' employers' hope the person responsible is found, they're thinking of Skaggs as he recovers at home.
"He'll do anything for anybody, he'll take the shirt off his back," said Goff.
