LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Jackson, Indiana, man was arrested after allegedly selling thousands in counterfeit silver and gold bars.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, a local resident told police that hundreds of silver bars he purchased for $38,250 were counterfeit. The victim said he thought they were genuine silver bullion.

The victim discovered they were counterfeit after taking them to a coin dealer who tested the bars.

Police began investigating and learned the suspect was attempting another sale, including gold bars valued at $210,000.

Investigators conducted a controlled operation at a residence and arrested 45-year-old James Jenkins without incident.

Police said testing of all the seized silver and gold bars indicated nearly all of them were counterfeit.

Jenkins was charged with two counts of fraud. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are seeking prosecutorial review into the possible involvement of another suspect.
