LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man died and another was hospitalized after a shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Louisville.
According to Louisville Metro Police, officers were called to the scene at 4:15 a.m. near an alley in the 600 block of South 3rd Street. That's in the Central Business District.
Officers found a man who had been shot.
Police said officers tried to help the victim by applying a chest seal and tourniquet until EMS and the Louisville Fire Department arrived. However, he died at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim Sunday as 28-year-old Giovani Castillo Garcia.
A few hours later, police were called to UofL Hospital after a man arrived with a gunshot wound to the leg. LMPD believes this man was also a victim of the South 3rd Street shooting.
Medical staff treated the victim, who was alert and conscious, and made the call for detectives to respond to the hospital.Â
Investigators are working to determine the relationship, if any, between the two victims.
There are no known suspects at this time.
