LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man died after being hit by a car while crossing in a crosswalk Sunday morning in downtown Louisville.

Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded about 11 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the intersection of South 2nd Street and West Broadway.

Police said a man attempting to cross West Broadway in the designated crosswalk was hit by a car that was heading south on 2nd Street and attempting a left turn onto Broadway.

The driver stopped and remained at the scene to help the victim until first responders arrived.

Police said the victim was taken to UofL Hospital with life-threatening injuries. In an update Sunday night, police said the victim died at the hospital.

No other vehicles were involved. LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
