Murder of 21-year-old woman still unsolved after five years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Charlotte Clark’s murder has gone unsolved for five years. Even after all this time, her family says it feels like it happened yesterday. They don't want another day to pass without knowing why it happened.

“I woke up this morning crying in my sleep because I knew today was going to be a bad day,” Clark’s mother, Gale Clark said.

“She walked across the street to talk to her friends,” Clark’s sister, Susan Powers said. She wasn't there ten minutes and someone drove by and shot eight times into a crowd of people,” she said.

According to Powers, investigators say they think the shooter may have been aiming for the man standing next to the 21-year-old mother.

“She bled out and she died. There wasn't anything they could do about it,” Gale Clark said.

Charlotte had recently moved to the Shawnee neighborhood on 44th and Del Park.

“She wasn't afraid of anything because she was so well-liked,” Powers said. “No one ever bothered her and they looked out for her because she was all alone.”

After all this time, her family still doesn't know who killed Charlotte.

“Somebody has to know something,” Powers said. “There were too many people there when she got shot for somebody not to know who he was.”

The only thing to help this family begin to heal: “He needs to turn himself in so we can have closure and find out why she was killed,” Powers said. “If he was aiming for someone else, or what. But, I don't think it's fair he's walking the streets and Charlotte is not.”

“I'm not angry anymore, I just want answers,” Gale Clark said.
