LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Nelson County man was arrested Monday after he allegedly assaulted a deputy and paramedic during a mental health crisis.
According to a social media post from the Nelson County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a residence on Loretto Road on reports of a man "acting erratically."
When deputies arrived, they identified the man as James Pinkston. Police said Pinkston was exhibiting what they called manic behavior, and it was later determined he was under the influence of narcotics.
According to the arrest citation, Pinkston was approaching deputies while "blading his body," before attempting to attack a deputy.
The deputy tased Pinkston, the citation said, and he began screaming and fled behind the residence. Pinkston then approached one of the sheriff's cars on the scene and began slamming on the window, attempting to break it.
The citation said Pinkston was yelling and continued to ignore commands, leading one deputy to use their OC spray.
Pinkston ran onto a neighboring property in response, the citation said, then entered a garage and could be heard breaking or throwing items before fleeing again. He later hid near or attempted to crawl into a camper before he was handcuffed.
Nelson County EMS were called to the scene to evaluate Pinkston because of his altered mental state. While receiving treatment inside the ambulance, police said Pinkston assaulted a paramedic by kicking them in the chest.
Pinkston faces multiple charges, including burglary, assault, wanton endangerment involving police, terroristic threatening, resisting arrest and fleeing police.
He was arraigned Tuesday and is currently being held at the Nelson County Correctional Center on a $20,000 bond.
