Man and woman shot and killed on Goldsmith Lane identified

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD has ruled two fatal shootings that took place on Goldsmith Lane a murder-suicide.

LMPD's Homicide Unit began investigating after a man and woman were found shot to death Sunday evening in the 2100 block of Goldsmith Lane near Bardstown Road in the Bashford Manor neighborhood.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said 36-year-old Tiffany Tomerlin and 41-year-old Jeremy Logsdon both died from gunshot wounds.

Family members who said they were related to Tomerlin gathered outside the house Sunday were overwhelmed. They did not want to go on camera, asking for privacy, but they did give some context to what they believe happened.

They say the pair had a complicated history and broke up several times, most recently a few days ago.

The family said Logsdon broke into Tomerlin's house while she was on the phone with her mother. Police say Logsdon shot and killed Tomerlin and then turned the gun on himself.

Friends remember Tomerlin as a social butterfly.

"I wasn't her only best friend. She had many best friends," Dama Maynard said. "If you knew her, you loved her."

Maynard said she met Tomerlin about 12 years ago. They worked in long-term health care together and had so much fun at various events.

"She was my right hand, literally," Maynard said. "She wanted to be involved. She loved the residents that we cared for."

Maynard said she got the call from Tomerlin's cousin that Tomlerin had died.

"I wanted it to be a bad dream, a nightmare," Maynard said. "But at the same time, I was scared. I think I knew. I was afraid something would happen to her. I had felt that way for a long time."

Maynard said she knew Logsdon too.

"He doesn't deserve to be recognized," she said.

Maynard said she talked to Tomerlin just last week.

"I begged her," Maynard said. "I said 'Tiff, just let it go. Move on. Life is too short to be in the back and forth.'

"There had been issues. I think there had been assaults, things that he had done that indicated there was mental and physical abuse."

Maynard said Tomerlin has a daughter from a previous relationship, and the couple has a young son. Now, that child is left without both parents.

"She wasn't negative. She was always positive," Maynard said. "She had a heart of gold."

Officers said the case is still under investigation, but they aren't looking for any suspects.
