LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Austin, Indiana, woman was arrested Friday and charged with battery and neglect after police said an 8-month-old baby was injured in her care.

An investigation was started by Indiana State Police on May 30 after the parents rushed the 8-month-old baby to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana.

They found a wound on the back of the baby's head after picking the baby up from daycare, ISP spokesperson Sgt. Carey Huls said in a news release.

The baby was transported by helicopter to Norton Children's Hospital in downtown Louisville where doctors said the baby had a skull fracture and fractured arm.

During the course of the investigation, ISP said they discovered the baby was in the care of Lauren Salyers, who was operating an unlicensed, private daycare in her Austin home.

Salyers is charged with felony battery and felony neglect of a dependent. She is being held in the Scott County Jail.
