LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested the man they say crashed into a pizza pub early Sunday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. Feb. 21 at Za's Pizza Pub on Bardstown Road.

That's when police say 40-year-old Benjamin Stimler crashed his SUV into the building. He tried to leave, but witnesses at the scene kept him there until police arrived. According to the arrest report, Stimler told officers he was on his way home from the Hideaway Saloon before the crash.

When officers asked Stimler how many drinks he had that night, he said "not that many."

Officials say his breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was was slurred. Stimler was also unable to maintain balance during a sobriety test, according to the report.

Stimler was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, criminal mischief and failure to provide proof of insurance. He was later released on bond.

Police say Stimler caused approximately $5,000 in damages to the building.

Za's was closed Sunday, but the owner hopes to reopen as soon as repairs are made.
