Woman arrested after trying to kidnap child from Wayside Christian Mission

Deanna Mensing was arrested after police said she grabbed a 1-year-old child and ran off with him.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was arrested after police said she grabbed a 1-year-old child and ran off with him.

According to an arrest citation, Deanna Mensing grabbed the child, who was playing in the common area of Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville, on Monday, Dec. 11.

Mensing headed toward the elevator as the mother of the child told her to put the toddler down, the citation states.

A shelter worker noticed what was happening and stepped in. Police said Mensing eventually surrendered the child to the worker and left the building, but was later arrested.

Mensing is charged with attempted kidnapping and is expected back in court next week.
