ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have identified two people who died in a crash in Elizabethtown Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Elizabethtown Police Department, the incident took place at 11 a.m. in the 2500 block of Leitchfield Road, near Kentucky Drive.

Police say a Chevy Cobalt driven by 17-year-old John Wiglesworth, of Cecilia, Kentucky, was traveling west on state Road 62 when it skidded into the opposing lanes of westbound traffic. Police say it hit a westbound Chevy Venture driven by 79-year-old Louise Pullen, of Elizabethtown.

Wiglesworth was driving from his automotive classes at the district's Early College and Career Center to a class at Central Hardin High School. Both he and Pullen died at the scene.

Hardin County Schools said Pullen was a retired school bus driver for the district.

Central Hardin High School Principal Tim Isaacs said the school resource officer responded to the accident. Administrators later made an announcement to students.

"I'm still kind of numb, and still kind of in shock about this," said Tom Pitt, Wiglesworth's automotive instructor. "Friends and classmates, they've lost a part of themselves."

Police say there were no passengers in the vehicles, and no one else was injured. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Grief counselors were on hand at Central Hardin on Monday, and they'll be there through the rest of the week.
